Jane Starkey
Born November 28, 1943, Amie Jane Hayes passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Jane is survived by her husband, Stephen; her son, Sean; her daughter, Shelley (Thomas); and her granddaughters, Finley and Elin, whom she adored, and her faithful dog, Willie.
Jane faced life with quiet strength, unwavering resolve, and an unflappable nature. Practical, exceptionally organized, and decisive, she always knew exactly what she wanted—there was no humming and hawing with Jane. If she said she would take care of something, you never had to think about it again. She ran the administration side of the business she and Stephen built together, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike. She also gave generously to her community, serving as Chair of Centennial Academy, where she received a Special Achievement Award, and later as a director of the Brome-Missisquoi Youth Foundation after retiring to the Knowlton area.
She worked hard, loved to laugh, and enjoyed good company. A natural athlete in her younger years, she remained an enthusiastic competitor, especially at the bridge table, where she was a formidable player who valued the camaraderie as much as the game itself. She was an avid reader who looked forward to book club and treasured the friendships it brought.
In her final days, Jane found comfort in the gardens, the changing scenery, and the birds and wildlife outside her window.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers and friends who helped her through this time.
She will be remembered for her strength, keen mind, love of laughter, and, above all, the deep love she had for her family.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held at a later date.
